Pabala Pure Raw Honey – Fynbos Multiflora 500g
Our corner of the Eastern Cape, in a jar.
Pabala Pure Honey is harvested in the Pabala Private Nature Reserve near Hankey and Patensie, about 40 km from our shop in Jeffreys Bay. Tucked away from the bustle of the Gamtoos Valley, the bees forage freely across wild fynbos, veld and the valley's citrus blossom. The result is a beautifully dark, rich honey with real depth of flavour.
Raw, the way honey is meant to be
Most supermarket honey is heated and ultra-filtered so it stays clear and runny, which strips out the pollen and damages the natural enzymes. Pabala honey is raw and unheated, so it keeps its natural enzymes, antioxidants and pollen. Darker honeys like this one generally carry more antioxidants than lighter ones.
What's in the jar?
An independent pollen analysis of Pabala's multifloral honey found a very high diversity of plants, with 49 different pollen types identified. Among them are vygies and succulents, fynbos heaths, proteas, buchu, wild daisies and citrus blossom. The analysis also confirmed that the pollen matches the area where the honey was harvested, so you know exactly where your honey comes from.
Why we choose local
Honey carries the pollen of the plants its bees visited, so local honey reflects the plants in your own environment. We believe that's where its real value lies. Buying local also means fresher, fully traceable honey, and every jar supports local beekeepers and the health of our own bee populations.
Enjoying your honey
- A teaspoon or two a day as your main sweetener, in place of refined sugar
- Stirred into warm (not boiling) tea, oats or yoghurt, which helps protect the enzymes
- A spoonful to soothe a scratchy throat
- Natural fuel before or after exercise
Crystallised? That's a good sign of raw honey. Simply stand the jar in a bowl of warm water to soften it.
